Theatre Plasterwork Restoration
STOP PRESS: Stevensons awarded contract for plaster renovation and repairs at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane - work to begin January 2019.
Stevensons have been awarded the contract for the historic plasterwork restoration and renewals at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The £45million refit means the theatre will be closed to the Spring of 2020 and Stevensons will be playing a major part in securing and reinstating the listed plasterwork in all parts of the theatre.
This wonderful Grade 1 listed building dates back to 1812 on a site where theatres have stood for over 350 years. Stevensons are delighted to have been chosen as part of the team.
The involvement of Stevensons in all aspects of the repair, replacement and improvement of decorative and historic plasterwork in theatres has been a major activity for three decades.
The Stevensons survey and reporting service is of particular current interest in the light of concerns about public safety in older theatres with historic ceilings. As a matter of routine Stevensons inspect, report, provide budgets and where necessary carry our repairs with a view to providing safety certificates.
Theatres where Stevensons have played a significant role include the Lyceum, Savoy, Prince Edward, Coliseum, Shepherds Bush Empire, Garrick, Palace, Lyric, Apollo, Duchess and Vaudeville in London. Outside London Stevensons have contributed to the Royal & Derngate Northampton, Hippodrome Birmingham, Royal Exchange Manchester, Theatre Royal Newcastle, Palace Watford and Theatre Royal Norwich. Outside the UK Stevensons have undertaken significant works in the National Theatre Bergen Norway and the Musical Theatre in Füssen Germany.
Whether undertaking a survey, carrying out routine maintenance repairs or assisting with wholesale refurbishment Stevensons continue to be involved in Theatre related work.
Our surveying and estimating team are always interested in hearing from theatre related professionals with a view to assisting them with their projects.
