Plaster Restoration at Senate House, Cambridge

Client Details

  • Client Name:The University of Cambridge
  • Location:Cambridge

About This Project

The Senate House is managed by the University of Cambridge. Whilst carrying out work to the roof, they decided to also undertake a general refurbishment of the building including repairs to the lime lath and plaster ornate ceiling.

Stevensons were employed to carry out the repairs to the ornate lime plaster ceiling

  • Stevensons undertook a survey of the ceiling and identified what repairs were needed to bring the installation up to the mark.
  • A repair regime involving the introduction of stainless steel fixings and wires with plaster wads where needed was agreed and instituted.
  • Some of the decorative elements within the ceiling were found to be made of fibrous plaster and these were checked for their security of fixing.
  • In view of the use of the space below the ceiling Stevensons certified that the ceiling was safe for public use.

Stevensons were selected because of their reputation generally for quality and reliability and in particular for having carried out significant works within the University of Cambridge including for Downing, Peterhouse and Gonville & Caius Colleges.

Stevensons regularly undertake lime with plaster repair work within buildings small and large and of every type.
